Bessie Lorfing, 96, of Hallettsville, passed away Sept. 4, 2013. She was born on Apr. 20, 1917 to E.W. "Bill" & Annie Drozd Ponish in Lavaca County, TX. She married John H. Lorfing on Oct. 9, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church at Shiloh Community in Lavaca County. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville.

Bessie enjoyed singing in the Shiloh quartet for years, serving with the Ladies Aide & was a 70 year member of the Hackberry-Shiloh Extension Club. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren & great great grandchildren. She was a very special granny to all of them.

Bessie is survived by: son Luther Lorfing of Hallettsville; 2 daughters, Pat Kresta & husband Marvin of Telferner, TX, and Carol Hollas & husband Leonard of Schulenburg/Houston; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Bessie was preceded in death by: her husband John of 67 years; parents; daughter-in-law Pat; brother Woodrow Ponish; and 3 sisters, Velma Muhlstein, Sadie Lorfing, and Vallie Schaefer.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Prayer Service: 7 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Andrew Taylor. Pallbearers: Darrell Kresta, Brandon Carpenter, Philip Dodd, Craig Hollas, John Lorfing, and Drayton Kolacny. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, Shiloh Community Center, or St. Peter Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery.
