Obituary

Bernice Morkovsky Morgenroth, 69, of Victoria, TX, passes away peacefully on Sunday, August 13 in Houston, TX, at the Texas Heart Institute. She was born in Hallettsville, TX on July 2, 1937 to Alphons and Pauline Morkovsky. Her father passed away when she was an infant, so she was raised by Pauline and her stepfather, Vaclav "Jim" Najvar. She had one sister, Annette Najvar Pavlicek.

Bernice was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She studied at the University of Houston Victoria Campus and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of the State of New York. A career in accounting preceded her 20-year career as a licensed Social Worker, spent working with children and the disabled.

Bernice was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, the KJZT Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Goliad, and lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. She was awarded recognition for her active membership and contributions to the Soroptimist Club of Victoria. As a loving and supportive mother, she was an extremely active volunteer for her children's activities. She was a lung cancer survivor and she enjoyed her grandchildren, her pets, camping, and spending time on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Surviving family: husband Bob Morgenroth, mother Pauline Najvar of Hallettsville, daughter Rose Cofer M.D. and husband Barry of San Antonio, daughter Cynthia Fritz Petty and husband Ken of San Antonio, foster daughter Neira Herring and husband Clifford of San Antonio, and grandchildren Tristan, Bene, Ian, Evan, Shay, and Neil.

Preceded in death by: father Alphons P. Morkovsky, stepfather Jim Najvar, and sister Annette Pavlicek.

Visitation beginning at 12 pm, Thursday August 17 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Rosaries at 7 pm, Thursday at Kubena Funeral Home, and 9:30 am, Friday at Sacred Heart Church. Service at 10 am, Friday August 18 at Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville. Internment at Sacred Heart Cemetery followed by reception at Sacred Heart Parish Center. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics of America, or mass intentions at Sacred Heart Church. Pallbearers are Tristan Cofer, Ian Cofer, Clifford E. Herring Jr., Michael E. Herring, Jeffery Herbert, Nathan Herbert, John Morkovsky, and Daryl Pavlicek. Honorary Pallbearer is Neil Petty.
