Obituary

Bernice Irene Brown Woytek, 75, of Hallettsville, passed away November 17, 2022.  She was one of eight kids, 4 boys and 4 girls, Vernon, Marvin, Alton Clarence, Lucille, Delores and Margaret.  They were brought up in hard times and in a unique lifestyle.  Their family did farming and ranching plus ran CW's Country Store and Beer Joint.  Bernice truly loved her parents and siblings.  They learned how to work hard in the field picking cotton and other crops.  They learned how to cook good food, drink a little and to love church and family life.  In school she enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball.

It was at her father's store where she met the love of her life, Lester James Woytek.  They were married June 15, 1963.  Together they had 3 sons, Kevin, Randy and Michael. Bernice always loved and supported her sons.  She made sure to attend their school events, little league games, sports events and church activities.  She loved hunting and fishing with her family.  She enjoyed going on vacation to Cape Carancahua and West Texas for mule deer hunts.  Later when the boys grew up, she and Lester traveled to many states including New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arizona, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisiana Georgia and even Mexico.

Bernice loved when her sons married and supported their wives and surely loved all the grandkids - Tiffani, Brandon, Dusty, Carley, Randall, Courtney, Tait and Shaye.  Family meant everything to Bernice.  She looked forward to the Holidays when everyone would be together and enjoyed attending the grandkids school activities, sports events, church events and birthday parties.  She looked forward to the Brown and Woytek Reunions allowing her to visit with her siblings, nieces, nephews and their kids.

Bernice took on many jobs where she met many great people that ended up being lifelong friends.  She worked at Tex Tan, Hallettsville ISD in the cafeteria and as a bus driver.  Later in life after the kids were older, she decided to continue her education at Victoria College with a degree in Social Work.  She worked at Stevens Nursing Home as Activity Director and Social Worker and later moved to Hallettsville Rehabilitation as a Social Worker.  She cared so much for the residents, and she enjoyed helping the elderly.

Bernice was full of life, but she was diagnosed with cancer in 2000.  She battled back and put her cancer in remission.  She went on to be a great advocate for fighting cancer in the Hallettsville Community.  She was a leader of cancer drives and also helped struggling cancer patients in need.

Mom was a long time Dallas Cowboy fan even though all three sons were Pittsburg Steeler fans.  It got ugly sometimes watching those games.  Bernice loved to read the Hallettsville and Victoria newspapers.  She knew what was happening at all times and with everyone.  Bernice loved her flowers.  Boy did she love her flowers which made mowing very difficult.  She got the love of flowers from her mother and considered this her therapy.

Bernice loved her dominoes.  She looked forward to getting together at the senior citizens to play several domino games.  She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, listening to country music and going to see Molly B with her friends.

Bernice loved People, loved Life and loved Helping Others.  She worried 24/7 about her Kids, Grandkids, Siblings, and Friends.  She always talked about her great friends and how much they meant to her.  She always told us you need to have great friends around you.

Bernice loved Vsetin Church and its members.  She had a great faith in God and loved Him.  She had great respect for Reverend Henry Beseda, Pastor Mark Labaj and Monsignor John Peters who all gave her great support.

Bernice is survived by:  3 sons, Kevin D. Woytek, Randy Woytek & wife Tammy and Michael Woytek & wife Tanya; brother Clarence S. Brown; 3 sisters, Delores Kutach, Lucille Bujnoch and Margaret Hines; and 8 grandchildren.
