IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernard H.
Grahmann
August 18, 1932 – August 13, 2020
Bernard H. Grahmann, 87, of Hallettsville, passed away August 13, 2020, five days before his 88th birthday, from complications from pneumonia (non-COVID-19). He was born on August 18, 1932, to Alfons A. & Cecilia Huser Grahmann in Hallettsville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Bernard met his wife, Mary, at a dance in La Grange, and they married on August 31, 1968, in Hostyn. Bernard and Mary established their family home on a small farm outside of Hallettsville. Bernard enjoyed working on the homestead, and he spent a lot of time working on different projects there. He enjoyed gardening, working with cattle, and building things. Bernard and Mary had 5 children, and he was so proud of all of them. Bernard also enjoyed playing dominoes, listening and dancing to polka music, and watching old Westerns on television. Later, he enjoyed getting to know his 5 grandchildren. He also loved spending time with Eddie, the family dog.
In 1953, Bernard was drafted into the United States Army in preparation for deployment to Korea. While in the army, he served as a gunner on heavy artillery and as an honor guard for burial details. The Korean War ended before he was deployed. Bernard was always proud to have served his country in its time of need, and he always loved to tell stories about his time in the Army.
In 2018, Bernard moved into Genesis (Hallettsville Rehab) because he required more care. Bernard had early stage dementia, but fortunately for his family, he always remembered their names when they came to visit. After a bout with pneumonia, he spent a brief time at Lavaca Medical Center and then Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, until he passed away from complications from the illness.
Bernard is survived by: wife Mary of almost 52 years (August 31st); his children, daughter Virginia Krobot & husband Jason, daughter Theresa Grahmann, son Stephen Grahmann, daughter Bernadette Martinez & husband Ed, and daughter Barbara Obelgoner & husband James; grandchildren.
