Obituary

Bennie Edward Orsak, 90, of Shiner, passed away May 31, 2017. He was born on Nov. 10, 1926 to Ludvik C. & Ludmila Zapalac Orsak Sr. in Moravia, TX. He married Victoria Jalufka on Jan. 10, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #4, Czech Heritage Society, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Bennie grew up helping his parents on the farm, until he was 18, and drafted into the army during World War II. During WWII, Bennie enlisted in the US Army. He was assigned to Company G, 187 th Glider Infantry Regiment. He received the Parachutist's Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, Army Occupation (Japan) Medal, WW II Victory Medal, and 1 Overseas Service Bar.

Bennie worked for Folgers Coffee for 25 years. When Folgers closed in Houston, he moved back home to the farm, and raised Charolais cattle. His bulls brought buyers from near and far. He enjoyed being around people and most of all he enjoyed the American Legion and VFW. He worked their events whenever he could.

Bennie loved his family and enjoyed traveling with them all over the states, and of course, his grandchildren were number one, so he thought. Bennie would always tell his wife, "come sit with me and let things go, take care of yourself."

Bennie is survived by: his wife Victoria of 68 years; 2 sons, Bennie J. Orsak & wife Linda of Donna, TX, and Ronald R. Orsak & wife Wanda of Shiner; 3 daughters, Wilma Wagner & husband David of Shiner, Virginia Svetlik & husband Archie of Smithville, and Debra Svetlik & husband Joseph of Shiner; brother Eugene Orsak & wife Shirley of Moulton; 14 grandchildren, Edward Wagner, Elizabeth Wagner Kubicek & husband Jonathan, Amanda Orsak, Victoria Orsak, Montana Orsak, Angela Svetlik, Andrew Svetlik, Alicia Svetlik, Julie Svetlik Stock & husband Kenneth, Joseph Svetlik Jr & wife Katrina, James Svetlik, Caitlin Orsak, Jaycie Orsak, and Nolan Orsak; and 4 great grandchildren, Jenna Stock, Adara Svetlik, Sammie Orsak, and Caroline Orsak.

Bennie was preceded in death by: his parents; 3 brothers, Marvin, Frank and Ludvik Jr. Orsak; and 2 sisters, Gladys Matej and Willie Mae Orsak.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, June 3, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Edward Wagner, Joseph Svetlik Jr., James Svetlik, Andrew Svetlik, Nolan Orsak, and Dillon Konvicka. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery or Donor's Choice. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
