Barbara Grafe Magruder

Barbara Grafe Magruder, 77, passed away on October 9, 2026, in McKinney, Texas. She was born on October 1, 1949, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Frank and Marie Grafe.

Barbara spent many years in Houston and Louisiana before returning to her hometown of Hallettsville, where she was happiest surrounded by family and friends. During her time in Louisiana, she developed a love for Cajun cooking. She loved nothing more than gathering with family on the back porch, grilling, sharing stories, and spending time together.

A dedicated teacher, Barbara loved finding creative ways to engage her students. She built lasting relationships with many of them, some of whom stayed in touch with her well into adulthood.

Funny, talkative, and never afraid to speak her mind, Barbara had a playful spirit and a love for gadgets and technology. Her collection of noisy wind-up toys was a fixture in her home. Above all, she loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by: her husband of 49 years, Hollis Magruder; her children, Matthew Magruder & his wife Amanda, Stacy Hower & her husband Todd and Dana Barringer; her grandchildren, Lucas Magruder, Addison Hower, Tanner Hower, Ryan Kienholz & his wife RJ, Jayme Kienholz Howsden & her husband William, and Brandon Barringer; and her great-grandchildren, Xavier Kienholz, Azkadyllia Kienholz, Liam Howsden, Lennox Howsden, Landon Howsden, Logan Howsden and Kensington Howsden.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie Grafe.
