Obituary

Barbara (Barbie) Ann Reinhardt, 75, of Austin, passed away on January 8, 2022.  She was born on February 14, 1946, in Hallettsville, Texas, the only child of Josephine A. Fowlkes and Leo Besetsny.

Barbie met and married the love of her life, Charles A. Reinhardt in 1966, but her heart always belonged to her many pets and plants that were the focus of every place she lived.  She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Barbie and Charlie settled in Rockport, where they raised one son, Mark.  Her love of animals and kids led Barbie to raise pure-bred Schnauzers for a decade and to babysit children for nearly as long.  For neighborhood kids and friends, her home was a welcoming place where they could always come for a meal, clean clothes, or a warm hug.

After Charlie's death in 2003, Barbie relocated to San Marcos, where she lived for over a decade and made many dear friends.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed many outdoor activities until her health began to decline.

Barbie is survived by:  her son Mark (Michelle) Reinhardt of Austin; half-sister Darlene Stacey of Hallettsville; half-brothers, Leslie Besetsny of San Antonio and John F. (Denise) Moore Sr. of Schulenburg; grandchildren, Madeleine Reinhardt of Cleveland and Max Reinhardt of Austin; and many close family and friends.

Barbie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Charles Reinhardt.

Special thanks to the caring staff of Serendipity House and New Century Hospice in Austin, Texas who cared for her lovingly in the last few years of her life.

Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Kubena Funeral Home. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Barbie would have loved you to lessen the pain of an animal by donating to your local no-kill animal shelter in her name.
