Aubrey R. Shanks, of Moravia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the age of 73. He had bravely battled cancer for almost a year. He was born on October 6, 1943 in Bryan, Texas to A.O. and Mary (Van Noy) Shanks.

Aubrey was raised in Kingston, Arkansas, he moved to Houston where he graduated from Sam Houston High School. He then worked for Tesco Welding Corporation. In 1973, he began working for Morgan's Buildings & Spas, also in Houston. On November 28, 1981, Aubrey married his "Dear", Vernell Konvicka, in Moravia, Texas. In 1986, Aubrey relocated with his wife and youngest daughter to the Konvicka family farm in Moravia, Texas. He transferred to Morgan's in Hallettsville at that time and was Spa Supervisor there until May 5, 2016, when he was diagnosed with his illness.

Aubrey is survived by: wife Vernell of 35 years; his children, Aubrey Eugene Shanks, Diann Rena Shanks Martinez & husband Jay, and Keri Shanks; grandson, Nicholas Rease Johnson; sisters, Linda Todd and Cynthia Cater; sisters-in-law, Linda Konvicka, Arlene Holmes, and Loraine Deem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Aubrey was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law (Rosie Konvicka) and father-in-law (August Konvicka); and brothers-in-law, Matthew Konvicka, Franklin Konvicka, Dyrel Holmes, and Charlie Deem.

Funeral Mass Service: 3:30 pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 1:30 pm; and Rosary starting at 3 pm. Pallbearers: Perry Deem, Jeff Holmes, Zach Holmes, Wes Neskora, Aaron Quintero, and Shannon Irvan. Honorary Pallbearers: Jay Martinez, Nicholas Johnson, Ervin Neskora, Joe Neskora, Tom Henke, Donnie Henke, Charlie Gunter, and Daniel Jahn. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hallettsville or Donor's Choice. Burial: Private Family Burial at a later date.
