IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anton Bujnoch
Sr.
October 13, 1924 – March 15, 2012
On December 21, 1943, he was called to serve his country in World War II. While serving in the US Army, he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze service stars for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, Good Conduct Medal, Amy Occupation of Germany Medal, Victory Ribbon, and 3 overseas service bars. He was awarded an Honorary Discharge on May 19, 1946.
Upon returning from the war, he spent six months attending Barber School in Austin, TX. After he completed his schooling, he and an army buddy opened a small barber shop in Eagle Lake, TX. Shortly after, he met the love of his life, Emma Etzler, and they married on October 19, 1948. As they settled down to married life, they were blessed with six children: twins Eugene and Anton Jr., David, Joseph, Judy and Geraldine.
A hard work ethic was instilled by his parents at an early age. In addition to working as a barber, he and Emma raised cotton, corn, cattle, pigs and chickens. To meet the needs of his growing family, he went to work as a welder at Kasper Wire Works where he was employed until his retirement in January of 1989.
Retirement gave him time to enjoy raising his garden as well as spending time with his much loved companions Rocky and Peanut. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He spent hours watching his favorite TV show, "The Price is Right" or playing a mean game of "Go Fish" at the kitchen table with his grandkids. If that table could talk, it could tell you the many wonderful stories and memories that were shared around it. He loved to reminisce about the good old days and his family treasured the stories and knowledge that he shared with them.
He and his family still raised their own beef and chickens as well as raising sugar cane. When the first cold northern blew in, you could find him supervising his family as they butchered a pig and made sausage. In July, you could find him at the press, watching as the he sweet juice of the sugar cane was squeezed and the juices were boiling to make his much loved molasses. While some may have viewed this as hard work, he looked at it as training the next generation to carry on the traditions that he knew and loved. He was so proud of the way his grandchildren enjoyed learning how to do things "like they were done in the olden days." He enjoyed sharing stories of his youthful antics and the many memories that he had of growing up on a farm, the hard work they had to do each day and fighting for his country.
As his health became a concern, he made many trips to the doctor's office. Regardless of how bad he may have felt, he always enjoyed stopping to eat some fried chicken and getting a "Dr. Pepper in a Styrofoam cup with that good ice in it." He always felt that food could make any situation better.
As he left his earthly dwelling to be with his Lord, he leaves behind his wife, Emma, of 63 years; his sons Anton Jr. and wife Dorothy of Sheridan, Eugene and wife Bettye of Hallettsville, David and wife Sharon of Rockdale, Joseph of Hallettsville, daughters Judy and husband Kenneth Anderle of Shiner, and Geraldine and husband Garry of Hallettsville.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his 15 grandchildren; Jeff Bujnoch and wife Shelly of New Braunfels, Tamara Siegel and husband Benji of Moulton, Anton Bujnoch III (Bucky) and wife Barbie of Sheriden, Lindsey Fisbeck & husband Sean of Weimar, Travis Bujnoch of Sheriden, Angie Wallis and husband Brian of Rockdale, Kelly Clark and husband Chad of Rockdale, Kendra Shows and husband Jason of Shiner, Mandy Fling and husband Jason of Yoakum, Robin Trojcak and husband Michael of Yoakum, Joni Anderle and Skye Anderle of Shiner, Courtney Perez and husband Randy Ray of Hallettsville, Holly Haas and husband Jeremy of Hallettsville and Ashley Dornak and Keith Rainosek of Hallettsville.
