Obituary

Mr. Anton J. Sassin, 85, of Hallettsville, died Sept. 20, 2007. He was born on Feb. 12, 1922 to Frank & Marie Morris Sassin in Fayette County, Texas. He married Julia Kostelnik Sassin on Aug. 8, 1943 in Fort Sill, OK. Anton was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. After retiring from the Texas Highway Department, Anton spent his last years ranching. During WWII Anton received the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze service stars for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

Anton is survived by: 2 daughters, Mary Ann Barta & husband Milton of Victoria, and Carol Calliham & husband David of Victoria; 2 brothers, Louis F. Sassin of Freeport, and Jerome M. Sassin of Schulenburg; sister Annie M. Machicek of Schulenburg; 4 grandchildren, Theresa Wheeler, Cyndi Koehn, Chris Berger, and Larissa Jonson; and 7 great grandchildren, Ashley Kana, Trevor Kana, Matthew Kana, Jodi Koehn, Jessica Koehn, Tyler Koehn, and Garrett Johnson.

Anton was preceded in death by; his wife Julia on Sept. 12, 2007, parents, and ½ brother Adolph Sassin.

Service: 2 pm, Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 2 pm, Saturday at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 1:30 pm Sunday at Sacred Heart Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Jeff Johnson, Dale Koehn, Larry Kana, Trevor Kana, Chris Berger, and Matthew Kana. Honorary Pallbearers: Ashley Kana, Jessica Koehn, Jodi Koehn, Tyler Koehn, and Garrett Johnson. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
