He was a veteran of World War II: he received the Good Conduct Medal; Victory Ribbon; 1 Service Stripe; 4 Overseas Service Bars; Combat Infantryman Badge; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars for Sicily, Naples-Foggia, and Rome-Arno campaigns.
He is survived by wife Adeline Gold Matejek; daughter Betty Lou Agoures of Houston; son Anton Matejek Jr. of Houston; brother Louis Matejek of Houston; 9 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: daughter Anna Lois Cupit; parents Joseph & Christina Holub Matejek; 5 brothers, Godfrey, Emil, Steve, Jerry, and Frank Matejek; 2 sisters, Mary Vogue and Frances Kovancevich.
Service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Koerth, Texas. Wake Service: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: Noon, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Charles Sonnier. Burial: Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers: Members of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Honorary Pallbearers: Clyde Bell, Clayton Cupit, Enda Spain, Brian Guseman, Frank Salyer, Johnnie Loos, and Daniel Loos.
