Obituary

Annie Mae Pesek 89, of Hallettsville, passed away November 10, 2014. She was born May 19, 1925 to Justina Chalupka Pesek and Jim Pesek in Sweet Home, Texas. Annie had cerebral palsy her entire life, and upon the death of her mother in 1959, she was taken in by her eldest sister and husband, Pauline Pesek Morkovsky Najvar and Vaclav Jim Najvar. She was loved and cared for by her family until her passing.

Annie enjoyed puzzles, embroidery, and Czech music. She was active in the Lavaca County MHMR and the Gulf Bend MHMR activities, and she especially loved the swimming and bowling. She participated in the Texas Special Olympics for many years and competed in the 1978 National Special Olympic wheelchair races in New York, placing second. She was a Breast Cancer Survivor, a member of KJZT, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Justina and Jim Pesek, her brother Jerome Pesek, her sister Lorene Spaniel, and three brothers at infancy. She is survived by her sister Leona Chovanetz, and her sister Pauline Najvar, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass Service: 1 pm Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 11:30 am, and Rosary at 12:30 pm at the church before funeral. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Pallbearers: Barry Chovanetz, Eddie Chovanetz, Bob Morgenroth, Dan Pesek, James Pesek, and Jerome Pesek Jr. Burial: Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery in Sweet Home. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville, Hospice of South Texas, or a charity of your choice.
