Obituary

Mr. Alphonse (Al) Daniel William Wagner was surrounded by his children when he went to his eternal rest on Thursday, December 6, 2007. Al was born July 21, l925 the third of six children to Charles and Emily (Kocian) Wagner, in Shiner, Texas.

Al attended Henkhaus Evergreen School, Green School and graduated from St. Ludmilla's Academy in Shiner, Texas. He then spent 2.5 years in the Marine Corps, and then attended Blinn College where he received an Associates Degree of Business Administration in 1955. He married Joyce Rother on October 7, 1947 and spent the next 60 years with the love of his life.

Al and Joyce made Hallettsville home where they raised their family of six children. Al worked for the local Ford Dealership for over 40 years. He retired on the ranch that had belonged in his wife's family for over 100 years.

Al was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He is known for his quick smile and witty personality. He enjoyed ranching, his family, and especially looked forward to providing services as a dedicated Lion, Legionnaire, Knight of Columbus and member of Sacred Heart Church.

Al found companionship and a way to give back to the community through the Lion's Club where he was a member for 45 years with perfect attendance. He served as Cabinet Secretary / Treasurer for the district 254 in l985 and l986. He was the local club secretary for 20 years and was a Life Member and a Century Member of Texas Lion Club Children's Camp. He just recently earned the Eye Bank Angel Award.

Al took many trips to Colorado hunting with his sons. Many hours of preparation, excitement, traveling and memories were made during these special hunting trips. He spoke of these days with fond memories and had kept the dream of going just one more time.

Al is survived by: 3 daughters, Maureen and husband Anthony Grones of Victoria, Sandra Pargmann of Hallettsville, and Gail and husband Willis Jones of Angleton; 3 sons, Al Jr. and wife Terri of Hallettsville, Michael and wife Sharon of Victoria, and Randy and wife Pam of Victoria; brother Edwin Wagner and wife Janelle of Hallettsville; sister Gladys Lieskovsky of Loveland, CO; 14 Grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Rother Wagner, parents, two infant brothers, and sister, Mary Patton.

Al's strong faith in God was evident in the way he lived his life, the examples he set and the love he shared with his family. Dad and mother are together again, may they rest in peace.
