Obituary

Alma Lucy Blaschke, 89, of Schulenburg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend of many was called to her heavenly home on June 6, 2016. Alma was born to William & Lucy Denton on February 27, 1927 in Onalaska, Texas. The youngest of seven children she was affectionally called "Lucy Baby." She graduated from Livingston High School in 1943 and continued her education at McKenzie/Baldwin Business College in Bryan. After moving to Houston, she began her secretarial career with Southern Pacific RR. She married the love of her life, Grady J. Blaschke on December 23, 1947. They were happily married for 41 years and were blessed to raise 3 daughters Beverly, Patty, and Brenda. After the girls were in school she enjoyed a 23 yr. career as the secretary at Freeman Elementary in Pasadena ISD.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Grady, sisters: Geneva Brewer & husband Floyd, Elizabeth King & husband Paul, Margaret Richards, Emma Lea Brottlund & husband Bill and brother John Denton.

She is survived by daughters Beverly Nance and husband Dick of Hallettsville, Patty Edwards & husband Tom of Montgomery, Brenda Hull of Hallettsville; grandchildren Shawn Larkin (Christi), Carrie Edmonds (Butch), Jon Nance (Natalie), Matt Edwards, and Adam Edwards (Breanna): great-grandchildren Joshua, Caleb, Callie, Claire, Colt, Scarlett, Savannah, Stella Lucille, Elijah, Greyson, Josslynn, Kylie and many loving relatives.

Lucy influenced many with her love for the Lord. She was a faithful servant at Onalaska FBC, Sunset UMC Pasadena, FBC Pasadena and FBC Hallettsville. Her guiding "Light" was witnessed wherever she lived.

Pallbearers: Shawn Larkin, Matt Edwards, Jon Nance, Butch Edmonds, Caleb Edmonds, and David Othold.

Honorary Pallbearers: Her Denton and Blaschke Nephews.

Our special thanks to the loving staff of Lavaca Medical Center during Mom's recent illness. We are also especially grateful to the entire staff of Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center and College Place Assisted Living for the extraordinary care Mom has received during the last 4 ½ years.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Monday, June 13, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Hallettsville with Rev Joe Ward officiating. Visitation: 5 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Burial: 3 pm, Monday, at Brookside Cemetery, Houston, with Rev. Jon Redmond officiating.
