Alice Peck Schutz, 98, of Weimar, passed away on February 3, 2026, in Schulenburg, Texas. She was born September 24, 1927, the third child of Joseph & Karolena [Wanjura] Kunz. Born and raised just outside of Weimar, she attended the country school at Svelto. When both of her older brothers left home to serve in WWII, she stopped attending school, as she was needed to work the farm with her parents. During that time, she met and fell in love with a young soldier from South Dakota who was stationed in Texas. After his discharge from the Army, Alice traveled 1,100 miles with him to meet his family. At the age of 18 she became the bride of Irven ‘Monte’ Peck. They were married on June 25, 1946, in Huron, South Dakota. After their wedding, they lived in Huron for a short time, but fulfilling a promise to her father, Monte brought her back to Weimar where they made their permanent home
The Pecks were blessed with three children, Shirley, Monte and Reta. Sadly, little Shirley was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 3, and passed away before her 4th birthday, a devastating loss for Alice as a young mother.
Besides being a homemaker, Alice had several jobs over the years. She worked with Monte in his painting business in several roles but mostly hanging wallpaper. She was an egg candler for two local egg producers, and worked at the Stanzel Company in Schulenburg, assembling toy airplanes. Later on, she served as a private duty sitter for several elderly residents of Weimar.
Alice and Monte were married for 43 years until his death in 1989. Several years later, she married Cecil Schutz, an old family friend who had also been recently widowed. They enjoyed 14 years together until Cecil’s death in 2006. She enjoyed playing dominoes and cards, and in her younger years was a member of the Ladies Canasta Club of Weimar. In her later years, her greatest joy was riding out to the country, feeding and checking on the cows with Reta.
Alice was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Weimar, where she provided many homemade goodies over the years for picnics and other events. She was also a Life Member of the Weimar VFW Auxiliary.
Alice is survived by: her son Monte D. Peck & wife Aileen of Hallettsville and daughter Reta Hrachovy of Weimar; grandchildren, Karen Hrachovy Hall & husband Steven of Sweeny, Monte W. Peck & wife Erin of Lincoln, Nebraska and Marshall Peck & wife Alison of Hallettsville; six great-grandchildren, Melanie & Kallie Hall, Daphne & Thaddeus Peck and Vivian & Ava Peck. Also surviving are several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irven Monte Peck, daughter Shirley Darline Peck, brothers Bennie & Henry Kunz and husband from her second marriage Cecil Schutz.
Graveside Service at 2 pm, Sunday, February 8, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Weimar. Visitation will start at 1 pm. Memorials (in lieu of flowers) may be given to MD Anderson, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of South Texas and Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center for the love, compassion, and care given to Alice during her time there.
