Alfred "Al" Clint Chovanetz, 69, of Hallettsville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born August 21, 1948, the third of seven children to Alfred and Viola "Dodie" (Rother) Chovanetz.

Al was raised in Hallettsville, Texas and worked for his father's feed store, Alfred's Produce & Feed. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School later obtained a degree in Pharmacology from the University of Houston. Over the course of fifty years, Al worked as a pharmacist in many communities and owned three pharmacies in Sealy, Wallis and Eagle Lake, Texas. He provided the Annual Flu Shot Program for schools in surrounding local communities and he managed the Wellness Booth for Brookshire Brothers at Wellness Fairs. Al cared deeply for his community and he would go above and beyond by filling prescriptions, delivering or answering questions afterhours for customers at the pharmacy. He touched many people's lives in doing so. In 2003 he returned to Hallettsville to work for Brookshire Brothers Pharmacy to be closer to his elderly mother and siblings.

In 2005, through E-Harmony, Al met and fell in love with Marilyn Prazak Chovanetz later marrying on June 16, 2006. They have a large blended family of five loving children; Amy Chovanetz, Randy Chovanetz, Eric & wife Ashely Chovanetz, Philip Jedlicka, Matt & wife Nikki Jedlicka; and seven grandchildren, Jaxon Bailey, Connor Chovanetz, Chance Chovanetz, Adelyn Chovanetz, Wyatt Jedlicka, Colton Jedlicka, Eli Jedlicka, along with countless uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family. He is also survived by: brothers, Frank Chovanetz, and Dennis (Tiny )& Barbara Chovanetz; sisters, Mary Sue & husband Billy Brzozowski, and Francine & husband Jimmy Couch.

Alfred was involved in Hallettsville Rotary, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir, Knights of Columbus, and he supported the local livestock shows and the Hallettsville Oak Foundation. He was instrumental in restoring the Pagel Family Cemetery where his pioneer German grandmother was buried, and he also organized the construction and placement of her headstone.

Al had a passion for sailing, technology, and was a "Mr. Fix-It". He was a self-proclaimed "Nerd". In his free time he would fiddle with electronics, talk on his ham radios, and loved to fly his drone to check on the cattle. Raising and breeding Brangus cattle was a second love for him. He would go and call his cattle every day with a bag of cubes in the ATV. Al was a true renaissance man with his sense of adventure for trying new things, like new restaurants, day tripping, wineries, brew festivals and hunting for the perfect treasure.

Al was a role model to many and touched many lives. Alfred always took time out to get to know you and your family. He wanted to know about how everyone was and what they were doing. He taught people how to live and how to live with love.

Al was a big man, not only in size and stature, but in his Love for life, generosity, and caring for others. He always put others first. Al was a great man, a great father figure and had a heart of gold that carries on in the ones who loved him.

Al was preceded in death by; his parents, sister Marilyn Chovanetz, brother, Thomas "Pete" Chovanetz and sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Chovanetz.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Chad Chovanetz, Aaron Chovanetz, Dustin Couch, Scott Bradberry, Derrick Ingelhardt, Taylor Albrecht, Johnny Ripperger, Justin Rother and Brian Bailey. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic School Fund or Charity of your choice. Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
