Alfonso "Poncho" Vargas, 65, of Hallettsville, passed away April 5, 2022. He was born on September 6, 1956, to Joe & Amelia Martinez Vargas, in Waelder, TX. A USMC Veteran, serving his country from 1976-1979, he was an easy-going man and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. On August 29, 1992, he married Juanita Perez at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Tx and to this union two daughters were born.
Alfonso left to cherish his memories is: his beloved wife, Juanita Vargas; daughters, Cresencia & Ignacia Vargas both of Hallettsville, Tx; parents, Amelia & Amador Alvarado of Waelder; sisters, Blanche Snell of Houston, TX, Fela (John) Moreno of Beeville, TX, Cindy (David) Claunch of Katy, Tx, Lisa (Jim) Dolan of Houston, TX and Aderana Vargas; brothers, Joe (Dee) Vargas Jr of Waelder, TX, Dimas Vargas & Armando Vargas both of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law Noemi Vargas of Waelder, TX; 6 grandchildren (2 girls & 4 boys); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Alfonso was preceded in death by; Joe Vargas (Father), (Brothers) Alfred and Valente Vargas, Grandparents, Sebastian & Matilde Martinez and Juan & Louisa Vargas.
Funeral Mass Service: 2:30 pm, Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville, TX; Visitation starting at 1 pm, with Rosary starting at 2 pm. Pallbearers: Aubrey (Guado) Barnes, Dimas Vargas, Armando Vargas, Ray Eureste, Carlos Moreno, and Andrew Welch. Honorary Pallbearers: grandkids. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Donor's Choice.
