Obituary

Alfonse A. Svetlik, Sr., 92, of Wied, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was born on June 30, 1925 to Adolph & Agnes Svetlik in Hallettsville. He married his pen-pal Agnes Marie Cervenka on November 9, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. He was a veteran of WWII in the US Navy; member of VFW Post 6382, KJT and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Alfonse farmed and raised cattle on his family farm. After hurricane Carla in September 1961, he went to J. Weingarten Inc. and drove a truck for 14 years, picking up chickens and turkeys. In 1975, he went to work for Mercer Construction Company, out of Edna, for 4 years. In February 1980, he went to Kasper Wire Works, for 12 years to his retirement.

Alfonse is survived by: 6 children, Benedict & wife Mary Ann of Hallettsville, Lawrence & wife Joyce of El Campo, Leon & wife Joyce of Shiner, Anna Jaks of Shiner, Joseph & wife Debbie of Shiner, and Alfonse Jr. & wife Cindy of Wied; 10-Grandchildren, Ben Jr. & wife Glenda, Kathy Grafe & husband Jason, Gregory & wife Patricia, Dwayne & wife Michelene, Brian & wife Jennifer, Julie Stock & husband Kenneth, Joey & wife Katrina, James Svetlik, Erik Svetlik, and Erin Svetlik; 9-Great Grandchildren, Kaylee and Kyle Svetlik, Jared, Nicholas & Alyssa Grafe, Emily, Joshua & Matthew Svetlik, and Jenna Stock; 4 Step-Great Grandchildren, Adara Svetlik, Kaitlyn, Justin & Clay Davlin; and brother Frankie Svetlik of Moulton.

Alfonse was preceded in death by: his wife; parents; 5 sisters, Lillie Berckenhoff, Cecilia Janak, Mary Matula, Marcella Kalisek and Agnes Svetlik; and brother Jaro Svetlik.

Alfonse's family would like the give a special thanks to the Wagner Clinic, Yoakum Community Hospital and Shiner Nursing & Rehab Center staffs for taking diligent care and excellent support of Alfonse

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Thursday, November 2, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Wednesday at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers (grandchildren): Ben Svetlik Jr, Greg Svetlik, Joey Svetlik, Brian Svetlik, James Svetlik and Erik Svetlik. Honorary Pallbearers: Dwayne Svetlik, Kenneth Stock, Jason Grafe and Shiner Nursing & Rehab Center Staff. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials (in Lieu of Flowers): VFW Post #6382 or Charity of Your Choice. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
