Obituary

Alfonse F. Grahmann, 87, of Hallettsville, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010. He was born on March 22, 1923 in Lavaca County, to the late Henry and Magdalena Schindler Grahmann. He was a life long farmer and rancher. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Life, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Credit Union, American Legion, Farm Bureau, Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and a World War II Veteran.

During his military service in France and Germany from 1944 to 1946, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal.

Alfonse is survived by: his second wife Caroline Grahmann; 4 sons, Lawrence & wife Delores, Edward & wife Patty, Marvin & wife Annette of Hallettsville; and Leroy & wife Hellen of Huntsville; 5 daughters, Darlene Shimek & husband Dennis, Theresa Matula & husband Leon, Marilyn Svetlik & husband Johnny of Hallettsville; Joyce Svetlik & husband Lawrence of El Campo, and Diana Matus & husband Allen of Schulenburg; 2 sisters, Agnes Hemmi of Houston, and Lillie Lutz of D'Hanis; sister-in-law Lucille Grahmann of Hallettsville; 25 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 6 step children; 7 step grandchildren; and 1 step great grandchild.

Alfonse was preceded in death by: his first wife Dorothy Wick Grahmann; his parents; daughter Evelyn; son Ervin; 2 grandchildren, Bonnie and Russell Grahmann; 4 brothers, Joe, Alois, Paul and Henry Grahmann; and 4 sisters, Annie Grahmann, Mary Migl Haidusek, Helen Grahmann and Martha Koch.

Funeral Mass Service: 10:30 am, Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 2pm Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Douglas Grahmann, Chris Shimek, Greg Svetlik, Stephen Grahmann, Eric Grahmann, Derek Grahmann, Jon Matus, Colin Grahmann, Garrett Grahmann and Chase Svetlik. Honorary Pallbearers: the remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and godchildren. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic School or donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
