IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfons F.
(Fons) Michalcik
January 10, 1915 – February 15, 2008
Alfons received six years of education before having to help out on the farm. He moved to the Bila Hora community where he met his sweetheart, Lillie Fojt, and they were married on Nov. 12, 1935. He spent his time growing corn, cotton, tomatoes, and raising cattle. He also was involved in working in the cotton gins.
Alfons loved to play dominoes at all stages of his life. In his earlier years he was an avid coon hunter and spent many hours with his wife and family fishing on the Navidad River. There are several Yellowcats who posed in pictures with Fons, Lillie and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herbert and Martha Tesch.
Surviving him in death are 3 sons and daughter-in-laws, Alton & Bernice of Hallettsville, Ervin and Jeanette of East Bernard, and Glenn and Barbara of Hallettsville. Fons enjoyed many years of fishing partners with 8 grandchildren, Wesley and David Michalcik, Michele Chovanetz, Renee Rivera, Shane, Debbie and Devonne Michalcik, and Shanna Moreno; 11 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Ashley, Sarah, Kolby, Kaleb, Kayleigh, Kyler, Trenton, Julie, Dillon, and Melody. Also 1 great-great-grandchild - Kyley.
After losing his wife in 1996, after 61 years of togetherness, Fons was very lonely, but had family there for support through this ordeal. He stayed at his house in Hallettsville until recommended by the doctor to admit to the nursing home. He acquired many close friends while staying at Hallettsville Rehabilitation Center. His personality was enjoyed by all. He enjoyed meeting at the domino table for the evenings. Fons was a man who touched hearts of many people with his hoorahing tactics and mellow spirit. Fons was loved greatly and will be missed by all. He left a piece of himself in all our hearts.
Preceding him in death were his wife Lillie; his parents John & Mary; 4 sisters, Anne, Mally, Mary, and Adela; one brother John; and 1 grandson Rodney Michalcik.
