Agnes Elizabeth
Bludau
April 1, 1920 – June 12, 2006
Agnes attended Sacred Heart School to the 9th grade, and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1938. She was a lifelong member of SH Church. Her church and school activities included: Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, church choir, and co-chairman of the SH church census. She was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers to bring communion to shut-ins, hospital and home bound persons. At SH school, she served as a PTC officer and as SH Athletic Club Treasurer.
Agnes' many social organizations included: Garden Club President, member of Senior "80" Domino Club, 1st & 2nd Monday 80 Club and Granny Girls 42 Club. She was an officer of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Agnes was also a Charter member of the Lavaca Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Ladies Auxiliary.
After her children were grown and in her retirement years, Agnes and Hilbert enjoyed playing dominoes and socializing with family and friends. She delighted her grandchildren each Christmas, which was her favorite time of year, by playing her harmonica.
In many ways, Agnes was a "unique lady". She was an especially strong believer in the power of prayer. During her life, Agnes prayed for many individuals and special intentions. She was frequently rewarded with the feeling that her prayers were answered.
Throughout her life, her home was open to friends and relatives. She and Hilbert enjoyed cooking and serving meals to all who visited. She and Hilbert led many grand marches, enjoyed gambling, Rockport fishing and working her flowerbeds. Her favorite time of day was 6:30 pm when she could watch Wheel of Fortune.
Agnes is survived by: 6-sons, Gerald & wife Kathy of Victoria, Hilbert & wife Kathy of Houston, Kenneth & wife Barbara of Victoria, Michael & wife Cindy of Victoria, Marty & wife Debi of Hallettsville, and Richard of Victoria; 3-daughters, Imelda Orsak & husband Marvin of Victoria, Lois Nelson & husband Mike of Houston, and Maureen Schott & husband Gene of Hallettsville. She is survived by 17 grandchildren: (8 granddaughters) LeeAnn Evensen, Kimberly Saddler, Jaclyn Adamek, Heather Zamykal, Erin Schott, and Kelly, Christine, and Janelle Bludau; and 9 grandsons: Chris, Jeremy, Danson, Ryan, Greg, Dodge and Reese Bludau, Jordan Schott and Tyler Nelson. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren: Josh, Kyle and Alex Evensen; Katie and Jace Saddler; Nathan Adamek; Zachary Zamykal; and Bridget Rose Bludau. . Agnes is also survived by 4-sisters, Minnie Schraer, Annie Leopold, Magdalena Steffek , and Rosie Bludau , all of Hallettsville
Agnes was preceded in death by: husband Hilbert (January 31, 2004); 3-brothers, Louis Haas, Leo Haas Sr., and Frank Haas; and 2-sisters Mary Kolos and Cecilia Ogle.
Service: 10am, Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Rosary: 7pm, Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Visitation: Noon, Wednesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hallettsville. Pallbearers: (grandsons) Chris Bludau, Jeremy Bludau, Ryan Bludau, Jordan Schott, Tyler Nelson, and Greg Bludau. Honorary Pallbearers: (grandsons) Danson Bludau, Dodge Bludau, and Reese Bludua. Memorials: Sacred Heart School Operation Fund.
