Obituary

Adela Pohl was born to the late Frank and Mary Hanslik on July 5, 1915. She grew up on the family farm near Breslau, Texas and spent most of her life in Lavaca County.

In 1936, Adela was married to Charles Drozd who predeceased her in 1963. Later, she married Alfred Pohl who also predeceased her.

Adela was actively employed all of her adult life and was the recipient of a Certificate of Business Administration from Blinn College in 1956. Adela particularly enjoyed the time she was able to spend at her farm and raising cattle.

Adela gave much of herself to the community. She dedicated much of her time over the years catering to the needs of aged people that were shut in. Additionally, she served as an Officer or Director for a number of organizations, including the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Lavaca Medical Ladies Auxiliary, Hallettsville Fire Department Auxiliary, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Adela gave much of her time, talent and treasure to the Catholic Church. In 1987, she was invested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She also served as an Officer or Director for the K.J.Z.T., Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Daughters of Americas. She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and contributed to its many ministries for a long as her health permitted.

Adela was most proud of her twenty-eight godchildren, and worked very hard at being a good godmother.

Adela is survived by her brother, Herman Hanslik and wife Pal Mae; stepson Robert Pohl and wife Georgia; and stepdaughters, Betty Lois (Pohl) Smidt, Cathy and husband Gus Berkenhoff, and Janice and husband Alan Valicek.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank, Alvin, and Adolph Hanslik; and sister Lillie Spies.
